3. We heat the uncapping knife to make it slide, much easier, through the wax.

7. Our extractor holds two frames at a time.

12. The honey that was spun out of the frames has dripped down into the bottom of the extractor. All that is left to do is fill our jars with it!

The finished product! We had three hives this year and harvested 50 quarts of honey. We plan to add four more hives in the spring of 2011.

4. Once all the cappings are removed, the frame will be ready to go into the extractor.

8. When the frames are in, we spin the extractor. When it stops, we turn the  frames around and spin, again. This cleans both sides of the frames.
